Dear Director:
The Central High School Band and Band Boosters cordially invite you and your band to participate in the 40th Annual Lonesome Pine Band Festival on Saturday, October 1, 2016. The event will be held on the NEW campus of Central High School in Norton, Virginia. Bands may begin to arrive as early as 9:00 AM. The practice and performance schedules will be e-mailed to you one week in advance of the festival.
The Lonesome Pine Band Festival is ready to meet the needs of all bands participating. It is our goal to provide each band with a positive and fun-filled experience. We hope that you and your band will join us and other bands from the area to make this an exciting day to meet old friends and make new ones, while also enjoying some wonderful band performances.
There will be three band judges and additional judges for drum major, color guard, majorettes, and percussion. First and second place trophies will be awarded for each specialty in each class. Since our event is a festival, all participating bands receive trophies recognizing their division rating. The Central High School band students will serve as guides for your band for the day. Additional festival information will be posted on our website at www.lpbandfestival.blogspot.com.
Enclosed you will find an application and general information forms which need to be completed and returned should you wish to participate in our festival. All forms and the registration fee of $75.00 need to be received by Friday, September 23, 2016. Entry fee:
$75.00
Classifications:
To be determined by the number of winds and percussions.
All bands will be expected to perform within their classification grouping.
Performances:
Each band will be given 15 minutes to setup, perform their show and exit the field.
There will be trailers available to help with equipment transportation.
Judging:
We provide each band with experienced and qualified judging.
Each band will receive the judges’ verbal evaluations and written comments of their performance.
Awards:
A division trophy for each band with First and Second place awards for drum major,
majorettes, color guard, and percussion in each class.
Best in Class trophy for band field performances.
Best in Class trophy for band field performances.
A trophy is also given for the best soloist overall during the competition
(The David Tipton Soloist Award).
Awards are also presented for the 2nd place overall band (Reserve Grand Champion)
and Grand Champion (The Lucian Priode Award) for best overall band.

Concessions will be available with plenty of food and drinks.
